À la fin du 19e et au début du 20e siècle, des historiens et érudits français tels que Louis de Mas Latrie, Camille Enlart et Jean Richard, en route pour l’Orient latin, s’arrêtent à Chypre et étudient l’histoire médiévale de l’île, étroitement liée au Royaume des Lusignan. Leurs écrits et les précieux volumes publiés restent jusqu’à nos jours une importante source de connaissances sur l’histoire et la culture de Chypre.
